Santo Tirso is a Portuguese city of Oporto belonging to the District, Northern Region and the subregion Ave, with about 14 000 inhabitants.
It is headquarters of a municipality with 135.31 square km of area and 72 396 inhabitants (2001), divided into 24 parishes. The council is limited to northern cities to Vila Nova de Famalicão and Guimaraes, the northeast by Vizela, east by Lousada, the southeast by Paços de Ferreira, South by Valongo, the southwest and west by the Mayan Trofa. Another important municipal center is the Village of Aves.Esta city is centered between the city of Braga that distance 25kms, 25 kms from the city of Porto Invicta and 25 Kms City Póvoa de Varzim.
Your Patron Saint, St. Benedict, is celebrated annually on July 11 (local holiday). A major padroeiras this city is also Our Lady of the Assumption, which has a beautiful “business card” in the form of a mountain. In its peak stands at an imposing chapel.

Until 1834 was the couto of Santo Tirso which was composed of the parishes of Santo Tirso, San Miguel Couto and the Santa Cristina do Couto. Until 1998 the current county of Trofa was integrated into the Santo Tirso, which was why one of the 10 most populous country.
